Fake News: Joe Biden Uses Racial Slur During Virtual Conference.
Within the first two and a half months of Joe Biden being in officer there have been many implications where information was perceived improperly. During a virtual conference that took place on February 19, 2021, President Biden stutterd in which his words sounds as if he said the “n-word”. The story was first taken up by CNBC regarding dozens of republicans basing President Biden for using such a slur. The overall speech was twenty minutes long and the slur is said to have been said during the 16 minute mark. A 54 second clip has been uploaded to several news sites such as CNBC and The U.S Sun. After taking a further look at the overall situation it is clear that it is another fake news situation started due to social media.
When doing a quick search with the words Joe Biden and Racial Slur, many sites pop up from sites that check fact to sites that try and prove the issue. Snopes was the biggest fact checking site that reviewed this article and proved it to be false. After collecting the official transcript from the press conference it is evident that President Biden did not use the “n-word”. There has been a recent argument floating around social media between the left and right. The left defended Biden by uses the defense of his speech impediment and that it is not possible for him to have racist tendencies while the right says that should be no excuse. In past conferences Biden has been known to use a teleprompter and the right concludes that it must be difficult to mess something “that simple” up. The Sun news site quickly refuted to the fact that Joe Biden does in fact have a stutter that was revealed in late 2019, a year prior to the election for presidency. After more digging on this behalf and article written also by The Sun news site entirely regarding the president's speech impediment. According to this article, Joe Biden has had a stuttering issue since he was a young boy and what brought him forward to releasing this private news is the backlash he received from Sarah Huckabee Sanders. This stuttering has been seen in past interviews and speeches that President Biden has done.
To conclude, the allegation regarding Joe Biden’s racial slur was a hoax that was caused by the influence of social media. Anything can be easily misinterpreted and flipped upside down in a matter of seconds. Not to make matters worse but the massive divide in the nation makes fake news just that much easier to be believable and arguable.
